23andMe is a privately held company located in mountain view, California know for providing affordable genetic testing. The name 23 comes from the pairs of chromosomes in are cells, founded in 2006. The 23andMe website is currently split into four categories: Health and Traits, Ancestry, Sharing and Community, and Research. They currently test or are researching over 118 diseases, conditions, and traits. As of today 23andMe cost 99$ and $9 every other month. The product has the ablity to provide tracking the migrations through time of your past ancestral lineage, also the origins of your ancestors. Some of the other feature's of this kit involve whether you will be at risk for 55 inherited condition, and disease risk. Some of the disease they test for are advertised are thyroid cancer, stroke, prostate cancer among a long list of others. Google has invested in 23andMe, Google has invested $3.9M and recently another $2.6M in 23andMe whose co founder Anne Wojcicki married google co founder Sergey Mikhaylovich.
