It has been recently revealed that the DARPA Robotics Challenge will
begin in October 2012. The winning team will be rewarded with $2 million
prize, but it should be noted that winning the DARPA competition will
not be an easy thing.
The DARPA has announced that they are looking for a robot which is
able to perform each and every human activity and is beyond the today’s
capabilities. Interested teams can register their entries by 31 May
2012.
Gill Pratt, who is DARPA Program Manager, was of the view that
available robots perform well in emergency situation, and can be used in
industry, defense, and education. This time, they want a robot that can
help a person in most difficult situations like Tsunami and nuclear
reactor incident.
“Teams are sought to compete in challenges involving staged
disaster-response scenarios in which robots will have to successfully
navigate a series of physical tasks corresponding to anticipated,
real-world disaster-response requirements”, said Pratt.
